When using 4 memory slots, do they all have to be the same type?

Hey, a bit of a noob question I suppose.

But I currently have TWIN2X2048-6400C4PRO, 2 x 1Gb sticks in my pc.

I was thinking about upgrading to 4Gb and getting rid of home premium and putting Vista 64 business on.

What would be the best way to do this? I bought my memory from here, but the pro version has since been discontinued. Would I be able to use this;

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp... 2GB DDR2 XMS2 DHX PC2-6400C4DHX TwinX (2x1GB)

In my two spare slots, or would I be better off getting 2x2GB modules and sticking them in there?

I'm not bothered about upgrading after this, so using up 4 slots is not a problem for me. But if it will reduce performance a lot, then I might be tempted to give away my existing 2GBs or ram and buying 4Gbs.

Cheers.

Edit - my motherboard is a DFI infinity 975g/x

well I have 2 @ 2gb and 2@1gb corsair memory at the same timings etc to avoid incompatibilty problems, running on windows vista 64, I play online TA springs, a C&C clone and cod4 online with cpu o/c to 3.6 ghz from the 3.16 ghz running A ok no problems.

PS just make sure u can get 64 bit drivers for your current hardware.
