When Was 1080P Introduced On The PC ?

As the title says, Anyone know a rough date when 1080P was introduced to the PC arena ?

Some time around 1998 I think 16:9 aspect ratios started appearing as an option in games but even before that resolutions upto 2048x were supported.

I'd love to know what the first ever officially supported game was at 1080P.
