Im really keen to upgrade my pc to a q6600, abit pro p35 and 4gig ddr2 8500+ ram sometime but when would be the best time to buy these at their cheapest price? around now or just after nehalem gets launched? or whatcha all think?

I'd go with a P45 for a mobo with PC2 6400 RAM (you can overclock it up it it's decent). Intel price cuts due in Q3, as soon as they're in, you're sorted.

I think you should look at it slightly differently as things changes so fast with new stuff etc. For me you should set a budget on how much you want to spend on your new computer and then when you have the money and budget set put together the best you can get for your budget.

By the time the Nehalem CPU is out the p35 will be quite old by then and its been shown already now that it's limited in how it handles Crossfire not sure if ever planned on ever using multiple graphics cards or not. But its good to keep the option open and future proof yourself as much as possible in the world of computer electronics.

Is there any date for the Nehalem release?

thx for replies - altho i wont ever go multi gpu - i just reckon with all the bother with compatibility with sli (and not 100% scaleable) why not just wait and get the single gpu solution thats better than previous sli gpu's, so I may be wrong but i think P35 chipset will be just fine for me - lol the question is when is a good time to upgrade :)

Go p45 it's a fair bit faster than the p35 boards and only a few quid more.

Now is as good a time as any to upgrade apart from the gpu(wait for the 4870). No point waiting for the new intel chips. They aren't out for ages.
