just wondering when prices will be back to where they were about a year ago?

not sure what's caused this increase either?

Prices look fairly down to earth to me, around £100 for the sort of kit you might put in a new build. It only looks expensive because of the glut we saw earlier in the year.
As a rule of thumb down the years I've always felt that spending at least a ton on each of the main components of a system (mobo/cpu/ram/gpu) is fairly standard.

If Taiwan manages to resurrect their semiconductor industry, you'll probably never see RAM as cheap as it was a few months ago. That industry lost billions of dollars due to that type of pricing and doubt we'll see this happen again.

guess cash4gold will be replaced by

CASH4FLASH memory

or something similar.

That said my wallet still hurts after paying £150 for a 4mb module for my amiga some 15 years ago. Still have it somewhere, couldn't bear the thought of it in landfill.

ive been after some cheap ddr2 for a 2nd build for some time, i wouldnt care i sold a 2x2gb pair of ocz 1000mhz for £40, then 3 weeks later the prices went up i probably could have got £60 for them.

i cant see them getting cheaper now

We bailed out our banks, their government propped up the semiconductor industry to the tune of billions of dollars.

If they hadnt,I'm damn sure we'd be seeing a lot more than TSMC unable to meet demands on production.

I bought my kingston 2x2GB for £55 (inc del) a few weeks back and now it's like £80 inc del!
Indeed. I was looking at going from 4 to 8gb, I found this thread after a bit of searching and checking my order history:

Order Date: 5 Jun, 09, 1:27 pm
Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel (KHX6400D2LLK2/4G) £31.29 1 £31.29

Now it's up to £66.08 (prices not inc vat). Should've invested in some! :(

Depends what you mean by cheap... £££ or £££ per gig. No doubt that in 10 years time we'll all be buying ram by the terabyte, and still complaining about how expensive it is :P

iv got no problem with the price of memory, just depends on what kit your looking at.

Just had a look at my order history and back in May I picked up OcUK 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel for £28.74 delivered!

Crazy

I bought 8GB OCZ gold series from OCUK near the start of this year, that was 4x2GB for just over £70 inc p&p. YEsterday my auction for one of the 2x2GB kits finished on ebay and it was £56. Nearly as much for 1 used 2X2gb pc6400 kit

well, i won't be upgrading to new systems from 6 and 8GB RAM till i can double it for a decent price. i'm in no hurry

can always sell my current kit i suppose :)
