Im thinking of buying a gaming laptop soonish for my venture into the navy, and was wondering when / if will the quad cores come out for a laptop?

I know a quad core isnt really needed for gaming, but I want to future proof as much as possible :)

A Quad core is quite pointless in a laptop anyway, and even for gaming.. unless you will be playing supreme commander all the time :p

Would be better than no quad core though... :p Could help drag out the life of the laptop.
I can't see them running much hotter than P4 based laptops when they're released and I'd imagine people who got them would leave the laptop plugged in the majority of the time.

What you'd really want is an AMD style quad core where seperate cores can be shut down completely and clocked independantly. (You'd obviously want the Intel speed aswell)

If they bring out some special mobile stepping with decreased heat output and power requirements I can see it doing very well in a desktop as an overclocking chip. Kind of like the Mobile Barton I've got sitting on my desk! :)

I reckon mid 2008 at a wild guess, it will be before 2009 though. Thinking about the current stage of technology and we haven't exactly had a big breakthrough of great laptops recently.
