My work PC always tends to be a few generations behind, as the most intensive task i use is Photoshop / Graphics programs for web graphics (so not really pushing things), or lots of windows open....
At present i am still on a (now OLD) AMD X2 (still works well) and when i brought this it was "last gen" too, but a big upgrade from my Dual P3 setup.

Due to reliability i need my PC working 24/7 and i think i am now pushing my luck with this PC, so am looking at upgrade prices for CPU, MB and RAM.

Would like to upgrade to SB, but will wait till it is "last gen" or the price coming down quiet a lot (if this will happen) (i think the current price is cracking (best pricing for years), but i still would like lower :-) + last gen i5 and i7 are still more than SB..... hmmm )

Any ideas if/when the prices will start to come down and any ideas what too?
or should i maybe be looking at the Phenom II X4 Quad's when BD is released?

Hope this is not a silly question

Thanks
Jonny

The prices tend to remain relatively steady until they get replaced with new products and with AMD BD looking like they will come in at roughly the same price/performance points there shouldn't really be a major change as a result.

Why would they drop the price? They may drop a touch when Ivybridge is about to launch, to clear the stock, but no chance before that unless AMD actually launch something competitive.

Why would they drop the price?

Unless it's an NV (they did drop but went back up) card most items in this business drop in price.

I am hoping it will be a choice between a SB 2500K at £120 or an IB at £170

They maybe trimmed now and again but won't be cut "dramatically" as hoped by the OP :)
