I want a new tv/monitor for my bedroom but after using a crt for so long I dont want to have to change to lcd and their, higher prices, lower contrast ratios, no blacks, fixed resolution, less vibrant colours and limited viewing angle, etc that I've seen on so many lcd tvs. Ive heard about sed which is supposed to use the same technology as crt but I dont know when its going to be released, has anyone got some info on release dates?

Far as im aware they will be out around last quarter of 2006 according to click online (dont laugh is usually some good titbits) anyway which showed them from some technology show in tokyo ones i saw were toshibas.

dont know anymore about them..........

I dont think we will see it untill some time next year and i dont think its going to be cheap either, I also wonder if they will do small sed's ? I think to start off with it will be for the large screen market thats still dominated by Plasma before we see smaller (les than 40") screens.

Don't underestimate the development cost of new technology either though. They have to add the development costs onto the early sale prices to recoup those costs. I also doubt that it's cheaper in the shortterm to produce sed as with any new tech they need to set up new plants and engineering processes as well as train staf etc so all that costs a fair bit.

Lastly consumer electronics like TV's don't ever seem to get much cheaper, you just get newer technology for the same or an increased price. If TV's followed the same pricing models as DVD players we'd see 50" TV's for £20 in Tesco's but it just doesn't happen that way, the same seems to be true of white goods like fridges, freezers and washers etc. 5 years ago my top of the range toshiba 32" crt costs £600 but now i'd struggle to get a top of the range telly at even the same size for that price unless i was buying old technology.
