you put in a second or third card...GPU...which one do you plug your leads into? Does it matter which of the 2 GPU's sockets I use?
 
The last time I had a sli setup I used the card in the first slot. It should pick it up automatically. I believe that you can also have one monitor in each card if they are not in sli or crossfire mode. If you want to extend the desktop across both you will need them plugged into the same card.
