whens the next 360 update ?

Just got one of the new slim's (4gb) and will get kinect too. Does the 360 still suck as a media player or has it gotten better in the past 6 months?
Does it handle any different codecs and file formats to what it used to?
Was thinking/hoping that i could maybe enjoy the experience with kinect and the hand-waving gestures and voice commands to browse play my media.
I'm used to the WDTV live and PS3....so unless Xbox has gotten better maybe its still a lost cause?

I'm pretty sure I read that the new update will include mkv support.

And imo the only perfect media player is a HTPC, I have a little mini pc and control it with my phone I've found it to be the best solution above all consoles/players/hdmi etc.

If it does mkv then i'll be v.v.happy!
The WDTV Live does that very well too, but one device to do all would be preferable.

26th was just internet rumour it was never confirmed but with Kinect out at the start of November it shouldn't be too long.

Well xbox.com now looks like the new stuff.

Tried to login xbox and none of the content is available. So are they updating or not? I just bought nightmare collection for red dead on xbox.com and want to dl it and it won't
