Where are all the musicians in Newcastle?

Well I'm in Newcastle; I moved here about a month ago to take a job in I.T. Now I'm settled in, I'm looking to start or join a band as a drummer playing mainly rock and metal (but in truth I'll play most things apart from Jazz and Country). Ideally I would be playing original material as I'm a bit of a guitarist aswell and really enjoy writing music.

Problem is, I don't really know anyone here yet and haven't ventured into the city itself too often. Where do I start looking? My first port of call was going to be the Newcastle Drum Center to see if there are any Personals in the window, and the same with any other music shops I come across. Does anyone know of any musicians groups or get-togethers, or any musicians forums that I could visit? Is anyone here looking for a drummer?

I won't be able to get into town to have a look around music shops until the weekend, but hopefully I can get some ideas about where to look before then. Can anyone help me out?

Check the practice studios like 1st Ave in Heaton, The Gasworks in North Shields, Polestar in Byker and Base HQ in Newcastle.
Trillians normally has posters up if someone is needed, fairly sure Head of Steam does and you can check the Dog and Parrot too.
