Where are the DDC's

Out of interest how old was yours when it died? I've been water cooling since 2009 with the same 18W DDC, running at least 8 hours every day, so that's like 12 years of constant use. Any tell-tale signs it was on its way out you could maybe have detected or anything like that? Pump had been in various builds for some time, exactly how long I couldn't say but at a guess it was at least five years old maybe a lot more. This particular rig is a secondary rig that is used just for folding so is on 24/7 running through a 1070 and a 1080ti, a cheapass block cooling a G4560, a crossflow 280 and a 60mm 420. Believe it or not, the system continued to work after the pump failed although the 1080ti became unbelievably hot and therefore throttled. I simply found poor thermals, shut it down, found the downtube to the res cold and therefore knew the pump had died.

Lasted 7 or 8 years
The PCB clearly showed liquid damage
So not technically a failure
Guess the O ring though it looked ok
Couldn't have been perfect or something
Or I dripped some coolant
And it ran down the pump wire into the pcb
The other one was an impeller issue
Awful rattling noise
Again probably about 8 years old
Could have fixed that one but upgraded
To 2x D5 as I made my loop much more complicated
All in all mine have been pretty good
But does show why I have a second pump for redundancy
As you just never know if one will fail
 
Interesting, the advertised mean time before failure is 50,000 hours, so 7/8 years solid use is probably in the right ball park. I reckon mine has about 45,000 hours on the clock. I have a spare 10W DDC kicking about so when the time comes I have that to fall back on so will just slap that in when it comes to it.
 
Try looking for the laing model of DCC as this is the better one I have one very quiet and runs great.
 
Unless it's a Chinese clone, they're all made by Laing. Every DDC and every D5. They are made in various countries so there may be variations in quality control but basically a DDC is going to be a Laing product. Lots of different versions of course.

I've never understood the complaints about noisy DDC. Great little pumps.
 
I have put the EK heatsink on mine as its got a 140mm fan on the rad blowing onto it as the pump pcb can get hot.

think d5 is also rated for 50k hours mean time before failure
though no idea if they base that off pcb failure
or mechanical/impeller failure
though not had a d5 failure yet
think of my 2 d5s the older ones about 5 years old now maybe
 
I've got 2 DDC pumps, both about 15 years old. Replaced one in March earlier this year with a D5 but the other DDC is still in use. Didnt really have any reason to change the other DDC pump, just fancied a change of reservoir and the D5 is quieter.

Both my DDC pumps were/are paired with the XSPC tank reservoir like in Mike's picture above.
 
i'm still contemplating whether to switch my DDC to a D5 in one of my rigs.. for quietness, but heard DDC operates better than D5 in a high restrictive loop, and well i'm sure the DDC won't overheat as i have a Barrow pump cover connected adn the DDC will be poking out of the case.. decisions
 
DDC has more head pressure than a D5. But it's relatively minor between the two. I doubt most loops would perform any differently between them.

it look like 2 minutes on Google to find literately hundreds of 3.2 ddc pumps in stock for sale

At the time of writing they were out of stock everywhere, now there are a few places that have them but many are still out of stock, I believe the problem is the switchover to newer pumps which are also out of stock and overdue
