Where are the games?

This is not a 'PC gaming is dying' thread but rather where are the new AAA releases. I would love to see the release charts for the past 10 years as I suspect that there are now less new big AAA PC titles being released.

It does not bother me too much as I have enough to keep me busy on PC and 360 and I'm into MMORPG's. I do believe that if I only played single player PC games, as I used to, there would not be enough to keep me going.

The only huge PC exclusive that has truly captivated me in a long while was Half Life 2.

If there were others, I honestly can't remember them :o

Usually, Feb-Apr and Sep-Nov are the periods when most triple A's get released. I will say though, that this year has been rather bleak for PC so far....

The only decent game i would consider AAA would be GTA SA. So that says something about the rubbish thats being produced these days considering the age of SA.

A good way of checking this is to have a flick through "best PC games of 200x" type lists e.g. http://goty.gamespy.com

Of course it partly depends on what you define as a AAA title, but in my experience there hasn't been a drastic decline in releases.

No easy to access lists for the previous years so I had a quick flick through:

2002: NOLF2, BF1942, MOHAA, GTA3, WC3, MTW, NWN, Morrowind, GP4
2001: OFP, MP, RTCW, DAoC, IL2, Civ3, Empire Earth, BG2:ToB, D2:LoD

Obviously these are just lists taken from gamespy, so not a definitive top10 for each year, but it gives you some idea. Personally looking at that, I don't think modern years are really all that bad. IMO 2007 had at least 5 AAA titles (CoD4, BS, WoW:TBC, Crysis, Orange Box). Did the previous years consistently have so many more?

They forgot Supreme Commander ;)

Tbh does feel like PC gamings dead frankly, I mean its June almost thats half way thru the year and sod all :) We so badly need BF3 to release July just to give us another burst of fun for another 2-3 years with expansions. Either that or more updated expansions to HL2, COD4 or DNF and more Supreme Commander expansions.

Last year we had COD4 and it seemed a whole batch of excellent games came at once towards 2nd half of last year....

Having said all that Pc gamings odd, even one game like DNF could turn it around and hardware/pc sales turn to hot cakes.

Its the same in console land (Except for GTA4 of course), theres nothing much really worth getting atm (GRID's on my list though).

I think we've got a bit to look forward to after the summer (5th September to be exact, Sport and Mercenaries 2 :))

This side of summer we have GRID and Flatout: Ultimate Carnage. But to be honest, we got told last week Codies now have the F1 lisence and Burnout is coming to PC. Add GTA 4 (only a stupid company would not release it on PC) and I think PC wise we're still going strong....

quite a few games will be out later on this year (not in any particular order)

1. Starcraft II
2. Red Alert 3
3. Far Cry 2
4. Mass Effect
5. Fallout 3
6. Fable 2
7. Stalker Clear Skies
8. Age of Conan
9. WOW WotLK
10. Operation Flashpoint 2
11. Spore
12. LOTR MoM
13. Warhammer DoW2
14. Aliens Colonial Marines
15. Battlefield Heroes

In this list there should be some good games for all tastes

It is a bit of a quiet spell, but there are perks to it too, such as getting round to completing some titles from the last year or two that I never got the chance to play.

Anyone remember October last year when there were about 5 A games in one month (crysis, the witcher, cod4, etc)? I did not particularly relish the feeling or pressure to get through each game so I could play the next.

However now I'm feeling refreshed and ready for some new stuff, and there are some very promising titles on the horizon such as Mafia 2, Alone in the dark 4, and to keep me going until then Left 4 Dead.

isn't it the same version, just with a patch for the bugs.

anyway I played the original unpatched version at Xmas, and I can't remember having any bugs on it. (not saying there weren't any, I just can't remember being frustrated by any if there were - Oblivion was buggy :))

hopefully Deus Ex 3 will see the light of day sometime this year. That will certinly be the most epic release of this year if it does.
