Something I was considering as I waded through the disease infested sky vermin.

I mean don't predator numbers swell when the number of prey increase? every school child has drawn that graph in GCSE science. So why aren't there swarms and swarms of sparrow hawks, falcons, eagles, or whatever else eats them fluttering round the major cities of the world?

A city is a very hostile environment for a sparrowhawk. Given time, and no / little human interference, their numbers would increase. But remember that they are starting from a very small number to start with.

Birds of prey have always had a hard time in the UK since DDT pesticides etc :(

Yes, pigeons seem to thrive in urban environments. I don't know a lot about ornithology, but I imagine the predators you mentioned simply don't thrive in that environment.

its a pity really.

There are nests found on sky scrapers and other tall buildings (usually on tv as tail-end items on slow news days) SO I assume they can nest in city cravases.

Genbetic enginering anyone?

There is actually a nest of peregrine falcons up on one of the barbican towers in the City, my office is in a nearby tower and all the bird watchers spend all day looking at them.

Occasionally you'll see one of the parents ripping a pigeon to shreds.
