So i got myself playstation plus and got Destruction Derby free...

Then i decided to visit the PS store to see what other PS1 titles they had on offer

However i noticed i lack of games that i consider to be PS1 Classics

Sure they've got

MGS
DRIVER
C&C
C&C RED ALERT
C&C RETALATION
(note) 3 C&C games i thought RED ALERT 2 was the best? its not there tho.

There are a few FF games that i never played but I'm sure others think are classics ( FF VII ).

However, where are

RESIDENT EVIL
SILENT HILL
TONY HAWKS
THASHER SKATE AND DESTROY
COLIN MCRAE RALLY
GRAN TURISMO
and as said already C&C RED ALERT 2

There the ones off the top of my head. I'm sure there are far more missing?

What PS1 gems are not there that you would like to see?

Porsche challenge
Spyro the dragon
GTA1
Toca Touring Cars
Soul Caliber
Parappa the Rapper
Adidas Power Soccer
Armored Core
Resident Evil
Tekken
Colin McRae Rally
Wipeout
Crash Bandicoot
Dino Crisis
Future Cop: LAPD
Hogs of War
James Bond 007: Tomorrow Never Dies
Metal Gear Solid + VR Missions
Tomb Raider
Destruction derby
Oddworld
Point Blank
Syphon Filter
Tiger Woods
Tony Hawks

So many new games came out for the PS instead of these dodgy squeals we get today.

Where are the real PS1 classics? On the US and JPN stores... :p

(Red Alert 2 never came out on the PS1 btw, only the original, red alert and the expansion)

This has always been a problem with the UK PSN store. You should see the Jap PSN store, all the PS1 games they have on there are true classics.

Id imagine most of it has to do with regional publishers in those respective territories.

More love is allways good, im fairly sure they'd like drop as much as posible on the psn, it's printing money in most cases.

Personaly im waiting on the dreamcast releases, i convert my ps1 collection to psp playable.

I must be going insane because I have Crash Bandicoot 1 2 and 3, yet 2 isn't on the store anymore. What happened to it?

edit: I've got Medevil as well, but that's also not on the PSN anymore!

So all the new PS3's cant play PS1/2 games (was it only the 60GB in uk?), ain't Sony missing out here?

Got all the C&C's, would buy more if there was some real classics

All the PS3s can play PS1 games, but only a tiny minority of PS3s could ever play PS2 games - Sony cut the PS2 hardware out shortly after release to cut down on spiralling costs in the face of weak sales. Plenty of older PS3 models came out without the capability to play PS2 games long before PS3 slims were a reality.

Not really, hardly anyone makes PS2 games, hardly anyone sells first hand PS2 games, so there's really money in it at all anymore. If anything it'll cost Sony to get it in. They learned the hard way it's not really a good selling point.

What if they released a PS2 Classics section on the PSN and actually had decent developers / publishers happy to let them sell the games that way? Not sure if it's technically possible on the PS3's that we have at the moment, apart from the 60GB, but maybe in the next generation of technology it could be a reality?

I think if we actually had proper Playstation classic series' such as Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, Tekken, Silent Hill, Colin Mcrae Rally and so on they'd sell much better than how I imagine the current "classics" are selling. In short all the real PS1 Classics are probably in a drawer somewhere in Sony HQ entitled "ignore fans real needs and replace with ****ty Disney efforts".

I just mean selling the entire playstation 1 and 2 old catalogue via download. No new games, just need a decent software emulator.

But then what would they do for PSP games if there are no PS2 games to rehash. LOLOLOLOLOL.

If they actually rehashed the PS2 games properly it might take up more of my time playing on it but frankly, the only games I ever play on my PSP are the Grand Theft Auto series and the odd game of C&C. It's not all about OMG LOOK AT TEH GRAFX!!11, I realise, but having something that cost over £100 that isn't even up to the standard of technology introduced in 2000 is a bit of a cop out considering there's been 3 major revisions of the PSP. The next PSP had better be at the very least Playstation 2 quality, if not better, I want better than PS2 quality but I don't really see that happening.

Something interesting I just found while looking through Wiki, not sure if it's true but apparently the Playstation 2 was released in Brazil and South Africa in November 2009, only 9 years a bit late!

I really hope that the PS4 is just so powerful they can emulate the previous versions. Surely there is loads of money to be made for them as well.

Emulation is very hard to do especially on console hardware (even now the pc ps2 emulator needs a beast of a cpu to do it well).

Generraly they just put in the chip from the old playstation but considering how much more complicated this gen of consoles is i doubt they'll be able to stick a cell or whatever the 360's cpu is in due to the power and board space other overheads
