OK, it's not a hardcore PC, but it does me for gaming and video editing. I would like to speed it up however, and to do that I need to find out my bottleneck.

I realise that my HDD is the most likely culprit, so what upgrade will you recommend there? So, what would you say is my bottleneck, if you can you could put them in order 1, 2 and 3, and some suggestions for upgrading would be helpful too!

So, here are my specs:

CPU: Phenom x4 9650 @2.3Ghz (possible OC with a new heatsink? Ideas please!)
CPU cooler: Stock
GPU: EVGA 9800GTX
RAM: Mainstream 4Gb @800MHz
Mobo: Biostar TA780GM2+
PSU: Atrix 650w (650w excessive, but it's probably not outputing anywhere near that!)
HDD: This one: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-030-HI (25Gb free:eek:)
OS: Vista HP 32-bit (may upgrade to Win7 64-bit, but I dont want 2 have 2 do a clean install)

Well, I have about £120 spare cash ATM, and I will have more at christmas :), but I wouldn't really like to spend ALL of it. I would say £100 max, but am really looking cheaper for now.

I will probably upgrade a component at a time as I go on.

Tried defragging your HDD if its almost full?

Well, I defrag every week, which is maybe too much? I normally have about 100Gb free, but I have just installed MW2 and have done some vid editing work which I need to archive on my external HDD.

I have a nice 1TB external drive, but it's USB :( so no real use of it other than backup and archive.

Is there ANY way to do a clean install without losing your programs and settings? Considering you are installing the new OS on the second HDD? Can you clean install on the new HDD, boot from the original HDD and transfer programs and settings 2 the new 1?

More hastle than its worth, and it kinda defeats the object of a clean install.

Yeah a new hdd with a clean install would be best bet initially, then maybe a new CPU

OK, I will wait 4 win7 prices 2 come down and I will do that. As for the CPU, would an OC be a good idea if I get a new heatsink? It's not the best OCer in the world, but it should be a bit better. I will probably open a new thread 4 that!
