I'm going to look at a car today, and plan to put my girlfriend on the insurance but she hasn't passed her practical test yet, so I'd need L plates, but haven't the foggiest idea on how to get them, or how they're fixed to the car when I get them?

Can anyone help?

Also, does anyone know how to book a practical test on behalf of someone, what details are needed?

:o

I've probably walked by them before and just not noticed...

For some reason I thought they might be someting that you needed to get from an instructor...

Thanks all... :)

Also seen them in Tesco.

And to book the test on behalf of someone you need their instructers ADI number plus their provisional license number, i think. Can't remember too much.

You won't need an instructors number. I booked my own test in my own car, no instructor.

If you get magnetic ones, observe the rules and take them off the car when you're not driving it. If you leave them on and the sun gets to them, the magnets will sink nicely into the paint.

Also, be careful how you stick the front one on, mine liked to fly off, stuck it behind the sun visor in the end.

Also with magnetic ones check that the part your planning on attaching them to is metal. My old Xantia had a plastic boot lid, cue lots of packing tape.

Oh and be prepared for arguments and the complete obliteration of your clutch.

Make sure they are sitting a flush as possible too. I lost mine on the dual carriage way when air got underneath them.
