Basically my golf had a slight leak issue this week when I had it apart, anyway long story short I got a few gallons of water in the floor pan. I've managed to drain it all away but the carpets etc and still soaking and the windows get steamed up beyond belief.

Found a little silica pouch thing in a box of toner cartridges at work, but that very quickly has just become soaking and turned to putty! I remember reading a while ago you can get like big clocks of silica or something like that? Is that true, if so where in 'real life' ie no internet jobbies can I get it from?

Your far better off hiring or buying a wet/dry vac, it will actually get the water out, silica is just for a bit of damp. Use the wet/dry vac and then leave the heating turned right up with the blowers on and the windows very slightly open to finish off the drying.

p.s I had the same problem with an old Polo and the garage got 10 litres out of the carpets!

You can get things for damp rooms or areas of condensation that are basically just a plastic container to collect water with a grate at the top and a bag of silica, about a fiver though, fairly decent size though.

When my old toledo had a leak from rainwater it was quicker and easier to take out the seats and take out the carpet and soundproofind to hang up in the sun for a bit.

Even when the carpet seemed dry, the sound insulation underneath was saturated and there were puddles at the edges and anywhere the carpet wasnt in direct contact with the metal

Get as much up as you can with a vax or similar or even copious amounts of towels. Then get one of these to finish it off.

What you actually get is a 500g tablet that looks like an oversized persil washing tablet. Pop it onto a grill pan to leave as much surface area exposed as possible and leave it for 12 hours or so.

Or if you've got a/c, turn it up to max with heating and recirculation on and leave it running for a couple of hours and that should do a decent job of reducing the humidity.
