Seems to be a minefield of fakes around. Anyone know or recommend a place i can get genuine batteries from? Need an 18650 for a low drain appliance (gamepad).

Fogstar.
Aimed at the vape market, but genuine, good service, and come with a plastic case for safe storage.

Some of the lower current 18650s will be pretty cheap. The expense comes with current delivery capability

I've always used Torchy. Good value and good batts. I have a few pairs that can pump out 50w every day and still hold a good charge a couple years on

I have always used Torchy but his stock has been a bit thin on 18650s. I just got some of the vaping recommended ones from Fogstar, perfect timing for this thread :D

+1 for reputable vape shop, +2 for Torchy.

Do you need protected or unprotected, though?
Most vape batteries are unprotected, as the devices have their own load/draw monitoring & control circuits. Might not be suitable for your gamepad.

Somewhat odd question as I know nothing about this vaping lark. Why are vapers so keep on 18650 batteries when you could use any old rechargeable battery pack I assume? Is it cheaper?
