I've done my homework and some haggling, found forums selling them for my particular system and best price is 795$ or I could trade in my 6970 and they would take off 350$

Just dosent seem worth it, upgradeyourlaptop on the bay is rude and abrupt, and there's also a guy on forum of notebook review I'm in corrospondence to squeeze a good deal with,

As it stands the performance gain is not worth the cost of basically, a desktop 6950.

Wondered if anyone knew where to source one, what about dell directly ? I can't ask yet as my service tag is not yet in tech help part of their care It's only just shipped.

Can this thread be about sourcing entheusiast parts, inc screens, hdds processors.

There's also MXMUpgrade, but they're heavily expensive.
Optionally there are people like the Clevo service centres who might be able to supply parts; but generally, due to the limited market, and relative low level of demand, I have found the GPUs especially to be excessively expensive, especially as a single buyer isn't going to commit to any sort of long term or bulk buys.
I've no doubt there are cards available if you know/speak to the right people, but generally the MXM market is actually for companies like Asus, rather than consumers; partially for support reasons, partially because companies wanted an easier way to adopt multiple GPUs, but still get the consumer to buy new laptops (It's harder to sell a complete new unit if the consumer can just buy the upgrade cheaply).

CPUs on the other hand aren't usually so bad, a lot of people tend to go for QS processors off Ebay and the likes; and RAM, HDDs etc are fairly easy to obtain.

Mxm upgrades don't do 6990 atm

Imwanting the 2820qm to replace my 2720qm when it comes, a guy on the forum quoted 320$ which isn't bad considering id get that on the bay for mine, the bay only seems to have engineering samples

Nice info it does all make sense, there's not really much saturation but there is a small market and people are going crazy for Mxm gfx cards people are able to ask crazy prices

Have you considered cancelling your M17X R3 order and keep checking each day for one with a spec that you are happy with?

I'll ask when my jtag comes up. Just contacted eurocom and best price they gave me for the 6990 is 285 pounds

450 for the 580m

Really don't see a need to change your CPU man, you wont see any benefits.

And you should just try your computer before investing so much to change it already.

I know man I'm just one of those people who gets a buzz from upgrading, just scared the 6970m won't handle bf3 so well

Oh yea the 580 and 6990 are very similar but the 6970 only has 960 shaders compared to 6990's 1120

its a funny story really, my outlet model was a wrong laptop and was full of scratches and had internal problems, for my trouble they sent out a new retail replacement with... a 6990:)

i havent actually had chance to try out its supposed greatness due to driver support, and i got it yesterday!

going to keep trying to get the 11.10 to work properly. im thinking of selling it and sourcing a 580m

You can probably blame that on Dell's VBIOS. The same thing happened with Dell's 5870ms and they were compatible with the standard ATI releases until later on IIRC

yeah i figured it had something to do with dell signature in the bios or something and only working with something dell certifies. is there a way to hack the bios ?
