Where cheapest place to buy a Sony DSC-RX1 digital compact camera from ?

Well I guess you have already done the normal searches. Cheapest I can find from a reputable seller is £ 2,299.00.
That cheaper then what I have found so far ...

Apart from sellers outside of the UK..
Which I don't really trust buying from as sony may refuse any warranty claims..

(But was really hoping to find one below 2k)

Not just a compact camera.

It is the first to contain a full frame 35mm sensor in a compact body. To put it into perspective, to get a full frame 35mm DSLR Body, you are looking at around £1300+ without the lens.

It also has a Zeiss 35mm f/2.0 lens

Both of those things don't come cheap.

As to the OP, I would keep an eye on Camera Price Buster, it has a listing for the RX1, though at the moment because it is still pre-order the price is goign to be around the Manufacturers recommended retail price. Give it a few months after release and it will come down a little (hopefully :) ).

Camera Price Buster can be found at

Although to be fair it can pretty much be thought of as a fixed lens full frame dslr, or not far off at least.

Still a lot of cash, but a great camera.

In terms of image quality that could well be the case, but I've yet to use a compact that can match the immediacy and swiftness that you can get with a DSLR.

Thats why I didn't say it was a fixed lens dslr but that it's in some respects similar ;)

As you say certain things it won't be as good at, but those things aren't really what it's designed for.

Yes what I was going do...

Am not going pay over 2K for it,,,I May wait till a secondhand one pops up somewhere..
(But I have a feeling that this camera going end up being very rare and very hard to pickup secondhand)

Think of it as a cheap Leica :D

Well considering the Leica X2 (albeit with an APS-c sensor, 16 megapixels and a 36mm f/2.8 lens) is only £1500, then the cheap Leica in this case is actually the Leica :)

Now if the RX1 settles around the £1600-£1700 mark then it will put a massive dent in the X2 sales.

I was referring to a FF Leica. :p
