Where did your love or interest in photography first start?

For me it was aged about 13/4 when my Grandad gave me his Canon AE-1

Still have it, and use it now and again, it's beautful simple bit of engineering.

Thank you Grandad, rest in peace.

I first learnt about photography at the age of 16, whilst studying Graphic Design at college. I learnt the basics on a Canon film SLR, learnt about developing black and white negatives, working in the dark room, etc etc.

Never really took a huge interest in it. Then in 2007, June to be precise, for my birthday I got a Canon 400D and it all kicked off from there. I have only just sold the 400D to upgrade to a 5D, it has lasted me well.

The first photo I took when my 'real' photography interest started:

I've learnt a lot since then.

6th form college way back in 1985. On one day per week we had a spare afternoon where different activities could be experienced. One of these was Photography. We were given a basic Olympus camera and let loose. We then developed the film and printed some of the results in a darkroom, obviously under supervision :)

It was like magic - pestered my mum and dad to some tune for the rest of the year and saved up like mad until I had enough for half the price of an Olympus OM30, my parents stumped up the rest for Christmas.

When I took up photography at A-Level pretty much. Had never owned a camera before and bought a Vivitar SLR. Was easily my favourite subject and would've done it at uni were it now for my worries about career aspects.

always had an eye for photography, i'm missing from a lot of family photos because im the one taking the shot. i remember when i was younger having an 'odd' camera (can't for the life of me rememebr what it was.. it took film that was in a long thin cassette, and the camera itself was about the depth of a VHS tape). I think that was my first camera. Found it.. am 99% sure it was one of these;

Then in 2007 I bought myself some newer digital kit;

Got into photography when I was studying BSc Multimedia Computing. My first camera was Canon A40 2mp digital compact in late 2002.

Since then I have owned Canon Ixus 40, Nikon D50 and Nikon D70.
Now I use Canon 30D, Sigma DP1 and at work the Canon 5D Mark II.

Still saving up for Canon 24-70L :(

I had a camera that looked suspiciously similar to that, except it was yellow and had a built-in filter that put Hulk Hogan in the corner of every photograph you took :eek:

I'd repressed that, thanks for the memory!

About the same age for me, when I found my dad's old Voigtlander rangefinder. He had just purchased a Pentax Spotmatic.

I still have my first photo taken with it. A B/W of the chippy I grew up in, taken from the church's car park opposite. I can still remember how excited I was when I went to the local camera shop across the road to collect my photos.

I bought a Fuji Finepix 40i in sixth form after having saved about £400!! The only decent brand camera to feature an mp3 player. Took it everywhere...unofficial photographer for school parties, etc. Did get some stick for it though.

Few years nothing, then got onto the forums here which rekindled the appreciation. Bought a D40 a few months ago. Couldn't bring myself to spend more than £300 this time though, even though I'm working and have enough disposable income. Dunno why. But other people appreciate it more now; there is an element of coolness.

auto Hogan mode sounds cool :D

you're welcome. i had actually forgotten what the camera was, and it was re-appeared from my memory when i saw the picture of it.. hence my babbling!

you mean fuji 30i ?

I started off with an Canon EOS 500N. I used to be really in to wildlife and bird watching but got bored of just seeing wildlife, I wanted a bit more of a challenge and to be able to capture the moments I saw.

Was never really interested in photography until a few years back when cameras were built in to mobile phones. Then started taking some photos on nights out.

First proper camera and photos were from travelling.

Always was interested in photography, and enjoyed messing around with cameras when I had the chance. Was in John Lewis just before uni doing some shopping, and it was just a kind of spur of the moment choice to have a go on a D40. Came back the next day and bought it, and a year later I'm still learning and enjoying it more than ever:D

I've always had an interest in photography.

My dad and some of his friends all liked photography.

Then I met mrk and I saw what he could do, and I thought :-o.

Then I bought a Nikon D40 earlier last year, and I've been playing with it ever since!

Dad had a Minolta SLR and used to take it on holidays and I always always wanted to use it, loved every chance I got :) (it was rare :p) so I always had an interest in photos :)

About 5 years ago I got myself a Powershot A80 and just started snapping, got myself a 350D about 2 years ago and it all really picked up from there. Now on a 40D and REALLY wanting a 5dii though :p
