Hi

I'm new to keeping things cool and need a little help:

I have this PSU

CPU cooled by An arctic freezer 7 pro cooler

Here is a review of my case.
http://www.systemcooling.com/xclio-01.html

At the end of the review the reviewer played around with different fan configuations. I'm wondering if you guys agree with the reviewer about which way the fans should be blowing? Also, which direction should the freezer 7 face - blowing toward the back of the case?

I will be using a e4300 overclocked and an arctic freezer 7 pro cooler

P.S. I only have a side fan and rear fan at the moment but I can get another fan for the front to blow air in if you think it would cool things down more.

Thanks

Pete

I would agree with the review, side fan blowing into the case, back fan blowing out. And with tis config, set the fan on your heatsink to blow straight into te rear fan, this way all the heat gets expelled straight away.

It would increase airflow no doubt. But you would have to have it facing so it blows towards the rear of your case.

amazing that search button on the forum

Thanks for the link but that discussion is ongoing and the matter unresolved; the search facility fails again...LOL

Seems the advice is the same as given here; fan on back blowing out, fan on front blowing in, arctc 7 pro blowing to the rear.

My side fan could be an issue though as someone stated they didn't compliment the arctic type coolers with side mounted fans. Although the side of my case with the fan on is concave so I might be OK as not right on top of the HSF.

The side of my case is also a mesh grill which I assume will allow air in or out. Wonder if that will affect things.

Is there any way I can check which way my case fans are set up to blow just by looking at them? The case is empty now. I don't like doing builds in case something goes wrong and once it's all in the box i don't want to mess with it if I can help it. Don't want to have to take stuff out just to change orientation of fans once set up.

Regards

pete

I'm a bit thick sometimes, I think I'd need a photo.

One side of the fan has plastic bits over the top leading to the center of the fan. The other side doesn't. There should be 4 of them (the plastic bits)

The fan will normally blow in the direction of these 4 plastic bits and suck from the side with none.

Is that any clearer?

Thanks Chris, all sorted now

I decided to stop being thick and plugged them into my current computer to check and you are correct about the direction.

I need another 12cm fan, any recommendations?

Depends if you want high flow, low noise or a combination and how much you're willing to spend.

Silent PC Review (SPCR) do some good reviews on fans but they are focused on the low noise end of the market.

For high flow consider YS-Tech (Yen Sun technologies) fans. They push a lot of air but are quite noisy.

Fans can also be had a lot cheaper with little use second hand on the Members Marketplace of these forums (you need 3 months and 250 posts though).
