Where do I stand?

Not entirely sure if I have a leg to stand on here, but it's annoying none the less.

Drove upto uni and parked in one of the 2hr bays as normal, but as I was about to walk away from my car a couple of lads in an astra (newish model) appear and start trying to fit into the extremely tight space between me and the car behind me. As soon as I saw it, I took a note of the numberplate but then had to run to hand in some work before a deadline....

I came back 5 minutes later, the astra didn't end up getting in the space but I'm now left with a massive set of scratches on my rear bumper on the left side and the bumper is deformed/won't properly go back into place.

Like I said, I have their reg but I didn't actually see it happen but I'm almost certain it must have been them.

So, do I have a leg to stand on with regards of trying to contact them and trying to sort it? There were no witnesses either unfortunately :(
 
No CCTV? There's some rule about you being allowed to see any footage that features you isnt there? So surely the security staff would let you see the 2 minutes that followed you disappearing and them doing the damage?
 
The bays aren't on actual uni grounds unfortunately, they're just the standard marked bays on a side road :( so don't think there's any CCTV about!
 
well technically its not the unis responsibility then... but have a good look about for CCTV cameras, but if theres none then theres not much you can do im afraid, as no witnesses, no cctv = no proof.

mind you, could still ring the police and get their advice, but i wouldnt get your hopes up...
 
Tell the coppers a bystander left you a note with that reg on, see if they will take a look at the car to see if theres damage for you? After all, it is an offence to drive off isnt it? and you have info to hand.....

What the OP knows and can prove are two different things.
 
Scrapes on the bumper would be a giveaway, driver may well admit it if a copper turns up to ask the question. Its not like its a random question when the copper has "tracked" him down and shown up at the door. I dont see the problem, you give police a possible solution to a drive off and they investigate. Its better info than they usually get isnt it? :confused:

No damage to astra and you can both mark it down to experience. Dont do it and it will alswyas niggle that maybe, just maybe, you could have got the damage paid for. Going around there with a bat isnt going to work is it, lets be realisitc. More likely to end up with the coppers coming to see you than them. :rolleyes:

Do you have another solution to propose R420LA6X2/4MNA? or do you just advise the OP to do the british thing and roll over and take it up the pipe?
