Where do people buy their music?

It's a long time since we used to record TOTP's from the radio onto cassette on a Sunday? evening. Or buy a single or album from woolworths.

I'm not a music head but if I ever want to listen to something I just use YouTube.

What about the mainstream, is Spotify the number 1 choice. Do you just pay like 80p and download the single?

Companies like Spotify obviously have some agreement with the likes of Sony music or how does it work nowadays?

I use Deezer for finding new stuff but still buy music I'll listen to regularly as I put on my NAS as FLAC files. If it's a band a really like I'll buy new CD's and keep them. For anything else I'll buy second hand off eBay.

If I am sitting at a pc then I just stream fro youtube. Otherwise I stream from spotify. I have no interest in owning physical assets nowadays.

I like to buy stuff but it's being made increasingly difficult these days. I wanted to buy an album from itunes the other day but it was 14 quid. Er... no. :D

Spotify premium, works on all devices with minimal effort, recommends actual music I like, has pretty much everything i've ever wanted to find, can't fault it.

In fact, to think of it, outside of bespoke mixtape tracks, it's never failed to find a song I wanted, regardless of how old and I was listening to fairly obscure stuff in my teens. (i'm now 41)

Apple Music or Spotify subscription. You don’t get to ‘buy’ the music but it’s sort of redundant in this day and age.

You also have the immediate benefit of getting pretty much everything ever immediately. I think as a music lover it allows you to explore artists and genres that would otherwise cost you £££. I was a little sceptical at first but it really is a no brainier.

I still buy CD's on occasion, and the odd bit of vinyl for collection purposes.

A lot of the music I listen to is on the older side anyway at this point, so I try to confirm the mastering is the best version and then buy that via whichever means is easiest, if that happens to be a CD I'll rip it to my NAS.

If I want to buy music I tend to buy the mp3 albums on Amazon. If it is a very special release or artist (like a live album where I was at the gig etc) I will buy the physical album in some form (bluray, dvd, cd etc). Would love to buy vinyls but got no space for them at the moment.

Spotify is worth the sub if you listen to any volume of music and aren't absolutely into niche stuff.

That said I've listened to a lot of obscure industrial stuff from my youth on there.

Plus, TBF, their algorithms are spot on.

I record it off youtube like back in the day and then only play it backwords to hear the demonic sounds the artists make as you pirate their souls

I keep my music library digitally and use two locations predominantly. Honest answer: I pick up the majority of music from established artists on an mp3 download site. The rights and wrongs of this can be debated; legal, apparently. Ethical, no. Although the 'ethics' of the music industry itself and how it treats its artists and customer base is highly questionable - and the industry can take a long walk off a short pier in that regard with its multiple hypocrisies. Being able to use such a facility has allowed me to own a far greater range and depth of music than I otherwise would have been able to. I'm not an audiophile and I find the quality is more than acceptable. A number of artists that I would otherwise not have discovered have become favourites, and which I will then often support by way of physical purchases. Or in some cases enjoy the music and then buying out their entire back catalogue (i.e. Rush).

For new artists, I use Bandcamp wherever possible. Better way to get revenue directly to the artist and there is a lot of good music out there.

The subscription model has never really appealed to me. I see the benefits, but I prefer to own my music and catalogue and sort it as I see fit.

Buy... Music?... I wouldn’t know where to start :p

Spotify is a blessing - If only other industries followed

I don't have a local store, so buy from Amazon. However, if i'm in a big town now and then I may browse and buy.
