Quite simply the above. Not long had a decent PC and starting to look for new games. I like to read a lot before taking the plunge so was wondering what are your 'go-to' websites for game reviews.

Sensible man!

I read wikipedia as it often collates a lot of reviews (there are probably better places for that), and I watch the Let's Play videos on YouTube. It doesn't hurt to ask in here, either.

Cheers guys, going to check out Wiki, Meta and the Youtube channel. Keep the suggestions coming. Would quite enjoy a list of review sites if there is one about (couldn't find in a search).

Usually just various forums and youtube. I never buy games on launch day anymore so there's always plenty of opinions around by the time i get round to them.

Rockpapershotgun here too. The threads here can be useful, but only if you know the poster's history. When someone with a low post count starts posting three and four times a day on an upcoming game thread gushing enthusiasm out of every orifice, I just get suspicious.

Reviews in the context of which they are labled by the industry/majority of the players, aka the score... arn't realy a thing.

The recent alien game proved just how much the score realy had no meaning. It's all about the context of the game and how it relates to you.

For me if there were a review of sorts, then the opinions of respected podcasters are something i draw from. Listening to somebody babble on for an hour about what the game is, what the aims of the developers were, what relationship they took from it, how it relates to experiences with other games in the genre, where it suceeds and fails.

Kinda priceless, after listening to a few podasts wax lyrical about the shadows of modor in recent weeks, im in for buying a game/genre i had zero interests in purely of the back of spoken word. No screenshot/video/review/stream would have sold it to me.

Youtube, see the game as you would see it.

+1

TB plus occasionally the other odd review site like Gametrailers / Gamespot.

I should also add that a youtube channel called Matthewmatosis has some of the best, if not the finest, content I have seen for game reviews. Unfortunately, there isn't anywhere near as many reviews on his site than compared to folk like TB, though of course the library of work will steadily grow over time.

Yeah, youtube definitely for me. I like to get a good look at the game before I buy it.

When reading reviews I try and look for user reviews rather than gaming magazines/websites as I like to have a variety of opinions from gamers in general. Not to mention that review scores from certain magazines/sites are very predictable these days.

None. Reviews are really not needed nowadays. Before a game is released there is often hours of footage and let's plays on YT. Watch all of the footage you can and then make your mind up whether the game is worth your time enough to make your own mind up on how good it is.

Look on forums to see what people are saying abut the game to get info on what the game will feature and discuss how it will be.

PS. The only reviews I watch out for are Angry Joe's, for two reasons. First, he is probably the fairest reviewer I have seen, and goes in to quite a bit of detail about the mechanics of the game. Second, they are usually quite funny....but even he has scaled back his reviews and does more let's plays now.

Also, totalbiscuit's WTF series is pretty great too. Some people don't seem to like him now for some reason, but he looks out for gamer's interests more than most and will steer you clear of any turkeys.

Echoing TB's WTF youtube show, very informative and on the side of the gamer. I also like to read Jim Sterling's reviews.

Youtube videos and if I'm looking for an opinion, Total Biscuit.

Haven't read a gaming magazine in years and I'd be amazed if anyone trusts a gaming website like "11/10 It's okay" - IGN.

Metacritics user scores can be a good guide though, but only after the initial hater/fanboy war has blown over.
