Simple question really, where do you think the internet is going? How is it going to evolve as a medium? :)

What do you reckon is beyond facebook's popularity? Reckon there are too many oligopolistic companies?

Rich get richer :)

Every emerging website gets bought up by the multi-national conglomerates. They go downhill and get drowned by ads, new ones pop up, get bought out, rinse and repeat.

Yeah I agree, of course everyone wants to develop the next big thing, but I think it's just going to get harder and harder for ideas to rise against multinational companies. A bit bleak.

The next thing will be quick and easy file sharing like YouTube did for Video's. News groups would be better as it doesn’t hammer your connection as much as torrents, which really would be awesome if adopted by companies to distribute legal software.

Heard the other day the Japs are testing a satellite that will deliver super-fast broadband to people on the ground. When this technology is adopted globally we're going to see a massive revolution in the internet as it adapts to mobile computing applications.

Obviously there would have to be advances in antenna technology too as the current antennas are five metres high :p

More multi-national, more porn, more spam, more nutters and this forum will go interactive with live video. ;)

hackers will become a powerful rebelious force against companies and possibly the government

I can see things like Google Documents becoming much more mainstream, rather than purchasing a lot of software we will subscribe to certain providers and run it over the internet, only with much more variety in the software avaliable

Why exactly does everyone seam to think that multi nationals, hate ideas?

They have whole departments to think up or find new ideas because without them they would have no future.

Yeah but they are always by committee so there is always this "group feel" to them.

I don't. I suppose if I came up with the next big thing, and sold out to a company it'd be good for me, but small oligopoly's can determine prices and set their own agenda, which might be against what was originally set in place.

the internet is like TV magazines, it doesnt matter that there is already 1000 of the same thing out there, more will come out, all with more advertising and crap.
