Where does my mouse pointer go ??????

Mouse pointer has vanished.
Does anyone know what the hell has happened to my mouse pointer?
I boot up the pc, Windows XP SP2 seems to take longer than normal to load and after the OS is up and running, say I'm browsing the net, my mouse pointer vanishes.
It's not "gone" like the dodo but seems to be behind everything, even the desktop wall paper. With some careful and frustaring navigation I can do stuff or use shortcuts but I need to know why it's happening and how to fix it. I've run a full system virus scan, my VDF is upto date. I've run Adaware and MS Spyware prog (whatever it's called). Each of the aforementioned three turn up no adaware, spyware or viruses.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Phil.

Thanks for the suggestion, tried it to no avail.
Incidently it isn't confined to browsing, it can happen whatever I'm doing, usually within the first few mins of booting up the machine, I could be in control panel, excel........anything and it will happen.

MS Intellismouse optical, corded. Just doing driver, tried a driver update but it saw no need, will delete the mouse then reboot.
BRB.

I've disconnected it, unloaded the drivers and software and downloaded the MS Intellipoint 5.5 .exe.
Popped the mouse back in and ran the exe and everything "seems" to be okay.
We shall see...........or rather should it go arse up....not see!!
I am also going to look for newer GFX drivers from nVidia.

ARRRRGH!! After about 20 mins it did it again!
I was opening an nVidia .pdf and it froze. Enabling mouse trails unfreezes it though, makes me queezy mind!
Hopefully the 81.98 forceware drivers may help.

Still open to suggestions though.

Odd thing has just happened, it froze again whilst the pointer ( I use default - nothing snazzy) consisted og pointer plus egg timer. It's still sat there in the middle of this window but my mouse just moves around as normal (must be something to do with redrawing the pointer cos of trails ???????) but now BEHIND it. ODD !!
Gonna install my GFX drivers now.
Cheers.

Have you tryed mouse pointer trail enable?
i had this as well it was very annoying so i figured i try the above and when i moved the mouse it appeared. i reckon its one of the updates have broke the mouse thing. any way it all seems fine now no problems with mouse. and i've disabled the pointer trail and the poblem hasn't come back

Is it set to hide pointer while typing??? if your PC thinks your typing for some reason it'll hide the mouse ponter. Things like that happen if your keyboard is wireless, or just a bit dodgy.

You should remove the mouse from the hardware device manager.. reboot and it should be fine again :)

his mouse is working, just the pointer is invisible. I'd be looking into a graphics driver issue, but seems he has found that out for himself allready.
