Hi. I've got a windows installation which has crashed so i reinstall windows and now have access to the info on the hard disk.

I've found outlook express e-mails (local setting>application data>identiies>{some number}> *.dbx files), but now i can't find the file that has all the account settings in it. i dind't export it anywhere, so is there no chance of finding it? (i'm htining maybe they encrypt it so peoepl can't find the password easily).

thanks

In the registry.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Account Manager\Accounts

i had a windows xp home installation, and some problem developed where i couldnt login and couldn't use windows update so i repaired the installation using the xp home cd.

the old username is untouched, so is there any chance?

Every chance. Depends on what you have already done to the data on the hard drive.

If it is only the account settings you want because you can't remember them then consider mounting the drive as a secondary one and using Regedit or similar to load the old registry (if it's still intact) and extract the data.
