where does outlook store attatchments

Hi, I had a OS install (xp pro) that ended up corrupt and wouldnt boot. the problem is that there were some files emailed to me (outlook 2007) that i need to get hold of. I've got the drive working with a sata to usb adapter so i can save my documents etc, but im not sure where i can find email attatchments?

Outlook Express or just Outlook?

If it's the latter then it is all in a PST which you will need to re-attach in outlook.

C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Default file it Outlook.pst

Either another installation of Outlook or one of the following two utilities, Emailchemy http://www.weirdkid.com/products/emailchemy/ or Aid4Mail http://www.aid4mail.com/.

so basically when i re-install office i should be able to move the .pst file over and all the messages and attatchments should open from the old install?

Yes, a newly installed Outlook should be able to open the .pst file, and will even repair it if it finds any errors.
