Hi everyone.

I havnt posted in the overclocking forums for many many years now, but i am bored in a hotel so thought i would have a browse around the many parts of the forum which i have hidden as standard and have done for years.

Anyway - wow this is a blast from the past! I have a question though, where have vapochills (and the later mach 2's and stuff from nventiv) gone?! They were all the rage when i last overclocked anything.

Last overclock was a P4 3.0, made around 4ghz at the time under a vapochill classic.

Anyway, where are they, why are they not mentioned any more? :)

LN2 has always been around, but its not a running solution, so not the same thing. Every man and his dog were running freon systems, i don't get why they have seemingly dried up  :)

I'm not sure, I guess the company may have gone under or been taken over maybe? I've certainly not heard of them for a while either...

It would be interesting to see how some of these new quad core chips would perform under sub-zero conditions....

Thats what i mean, surely an i7 or whatever they are called now would be really good at -20c or thereabouts which is what they used to hold our chips at.

I'm sure people that still run vapochills should be able to get adaptor plates or something similar would allow them to use newer chips.

I can't remember the last time I've seen someone on ocuk with a vapo setup tho, you may be able find people over at XS who are still running them with tho. :)

I think another nail in the coffin was the rise of the 'cold bug' effect at the CPU level: chips just wouldn't boot if they were too cold.

The only rough equivalent was TEC, and that was/is too much of a faff to do well.

Is that Jez for like years ago??????

Well Jez, they are in my Garage m8.

I have 5 still gathering dust, from special Custom LS made for me by Astek directly and a special LS spec GPU colder.

Was thinking of selling them tbh, family is to large for overclocking any more.

Nice to see ya still around Jez. :)

Yes same person :)

Shame all of this great old tech has gone out of the window, but as you i now have rather more pressing things than worrying about how fast a computer is :D Was good while it lasted though. I have a bunch of pre built HP machines now which give me no grief and make no noise, along with laptops of course.
