Where is all the HDMI 2.1?

With the new consoles and Ampere GPUs all boasting HDMI 2.1, why have the monitor manufacturers been so slow to respond?

There doesn't even appear to be much news of timescales on launches of 'next gen' computer monitors.

This was coming a mile off, but I'm struggling to see how there isn't a single manufacturer of gaming monitors that have been able to get a product to market yet. I'm sure they'd clean up if they launched one.

(I'm ignoring TVs here, by the way)

I'm currently using a 1440p 60hz Samsung Ultrawide. It's **** for gaming. Debating whether I just buy a £300-400 144hz+ 1440p panel as a stop gap for the next 6 months...

I imagine it will probably be that long before we see these arrive. Whenever I see a quarter announced for a monitor release, I always expect it to arrive at the very earliest in the one after, so Q2 is more likely, if we're lucky. Then of course you have to allow for the 3-4 exchanges until you get a panel without horrendous bleed/glow and/or dirt under the panel.

Probably because DisplayPort 1.4 is sufficient for up to 130Hz@4k (104Hz with HDR). There aren't a lot of monitors that need more than that yet (and DP2 is nearly here for when there are).

Monitor tech always moves at a snail's pace, so I can't say I'm surprised.
You're grossly underestimating speed of snails.
Tech of available monitors moves slower than continental drift!

It's completely ridiculous that it looks to be taking (hopefully only) 20 years until we have flat monitors matching old CRT's in contrast and viewing angles. (along with response times)
