...a Silver 16GB iPod Nano that does not have the EU volume limit cap, i.e. it must be from North America or Japan.

I owned one previously and found it on eBay, however I have since sold it and now regret it. Trying to find one now that is confirmed as being a non-EU (read, not crippled) version is proving difficult.

Suggestions?

Stupid question maybe, but my Director is in the US right now. If he picks me up a Nano coming back through the airport, is it safe to assume it's definitely a US model?

(Feel so stupid asking, but you never can be sure)

Pardon? ( :D)

I reckon it's about 10-20% difference. I MP3Gain my tracks to approx 90db which takes aways most of the clipping in badly engineered/encoded tracks. The downside is that the amplifier needs to work harder to get more volume. With a UK iPod the volume ceiling is reached too soon, the US versions just give me that little extra overhead.

Each to their own of course, but I feel it's worth the hassle to get a non-EU model :)
