Hi all

I have recently purchased an ASUS P8Z68-V and i5-2500K to upgrade my now aged Opteron 175. I removed my old MB and everything from the case an installed my nice shiny new board but it wouldn't POST  I reseated all cables and tried powering up outside the case, but still the same. I knew the MB was getting power as the onboard powerswitch lit up so I assumed the board had a fault so it was RMA'd. The board was tested and no fault was found so of course I had to pay a few quid to get it back. I have today tested it at work with a PSU from a generic PC that is nothing special, and to my surprise the board POSTed. THis leads me to believ it is my PSU, HOWEVER my PSU runs my old rig just fine, in fact I am posting this on it now. Everything I have read leads me to believe that the problem is with the ATX12V / EPS connectors, however I have this connected to my board at present and as I say it boots ok. The PSU I used at work only had a 4-pin ATX12V connector, not 2 to make the EPS so I know my new board will boot with just one connector. I have tried both 4-pin connectors of my current PSU in all combinations on my new board but it is still not playing ball. Checking the PSU delivery note I see I purchased it just over 3 years ago so it looks like the warranty has run out on it  Am I missing something here or is it a new PSU time? I'll be extremely peeved if it is as it seems to be working fine to me and it is only just over the warranty period.

Any ideas, I am tearing my hair out with this and really want my new rig up and running

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris, It does seem like it's new PSU time. I don't know why its not posting, i don't think you are missing anything.

Out of interest what is the spec of your old PSU/motherboard.

Are you running a GPU in your new rig too? if so, wehat model/spec is it?

I have a Zalman ZM-750HP which I have been quite pleased with until now.
MB is an Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe

I've even tried POSTing it without any GPU add in so it just uses the onboard Graphics. Works fine with the generic PSU but not on mine. My current setup uses an 8800GTOC2

Tried the standard remove everything until it posts? I know the chances are slim, but it could be something else, best to make sure first :)

OK the plot thickens! I've brought my PSU into work today and it won't work on any machines that are here, however still works on my machine at home which I find really confusing! It definitely looks like the PSU though so are there any recommendations? The one I have at the moment is a Zalman ZM-750HP and I'd like one that is pretty much as quiet as this one if possible. I'm going to be running an i5-2500K, ASUS P8-Z68V, possible 2x 8800GTOC2 in SLI and 3 Samsung HDDs.
