Chaos at Heathrow after British Airways IT failure causes delays

Yet another failure at Heathrow and probably not going to be the last of the summer, along with Manchester airport power cut to terminal one and two the other day.

What up with the IT systems is it all due to outsourcing and saving money?

You just don't notice when it's working.

Ability to get back up again when it fails and a low frequency of failing is what matters.

We've recently gone through LHR in May, and for two departing flights and one arriving, as soon as we landed in each flight we got an instant alert from the airline to say our luggage may not be with us!

Still waiting to hear about BA compensating for a flight cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, meaning a 4am drive to LHR from Newcastle instead of flying. Supposedly weather related, but apparently more likely related to similar issues to what you've posted about @bingham67

As with everything, the powers that be don't understand how critical IT Systems are until they go down, quite why Manchester Airport didn't have adequate 'reserve' power options is beyond me, guess they've spent the time since the weekend looking at UPS and back up generators
