Where to advertise PHP job?

Hi guys,

So in this day and age of social media, I'm convinced that you don't have to place expensive ads on one of the giant job sites to get the attention of the people you are looking for...

So a question to any of you guys who have recently been employed - where did you find the job vacancy?
 
I have recently got a new job and it was just a case of the recruitment agent calling me up and said that there is a job going and for me to agree they represent me. How the recruitment agent got notice of such vacancies could have been legitimate (ie. they were contacted by the company) or immoral (eg. they were fishing around and got lucky).

I find that all the advertised jobs in the major job sites (or at least the top ranking ones) are non-jobs designed to get your name on the books of the agency - who will then whore your CV about.
