Where to buy?

HI guys,

I recently opened a new thread as I was considering getting a Nikon 1 V1 as I've always wanted to get into photography and thought it might be a good first camera.

Well, after lots of good advice from fellow forum members and research online, I've decided to get the Nikon D5100 instead with the kit lens and will get a 50mm f1.8 in a few months.

My question for you all is where do you typically buy your gear? I live in Aberdeen so my high street shop options are places like John Lewis and Currys unless I go online. I have found that the rainforest is selling the camera online for the same price as Currys but have found another online store (procamerashop.co.uk) which is considerably cheaper (around £65) but I am wary of the cheaper price.

I wanted to get your opinions on this - I am spending a lot (to me at least!) on a camera and want to make sure I get it from the right place that doesn't affect things like a UK warranty etc.

Thanks :)

James

PS - If I've mentioned any rivals, apologies! I can easily modify the post.

I like WeX for bodies. London Camera Exchange can be quite good as well. But yeah WeX is good for UK stuff. (The d5100 with kit is 419 [as is Amazon's as it happens])

It's a very good camera. The only problem I've had with mine was with moto-x where the focus-tracking wasn't quite good enough and I got a lot of out-of-focus shots when panning.

I did hear that on a review I was reading but through all the research I've been doing, the D5100 seems to be the best camera (new, not 2nd hand) for my price range.

Thanks for pointing it out though - the photography section of this forum is fantastic with all the people who spend time sharing knowledge!
