Its been an age since i last posted, but anyways

ive got an old shuttle sn45g that ive been using a server, the only problem is heat and power usage, its currently on a t-bred 2200 .... not exactly known for there low power and low heat, so i did some looking around and thought of some of the mobile chips, seeing as its more of a ftp/itunes server these days so speed isnt realy that big an issue, so the question is...

where can i get lower power low heat socket a cpu's?

the duron 1ghz mobile looked nice but seems very rare.

so any help/advice or someone selling would be great

( hope its ok to ask for a sale as i dont think ocuk sell socket a now?)

thanks in advance.

The online auction sites are pretty much the only place to buy them these days.

But a 1ghz Duron is a fair step down from a T-B 2200+.

Nice post count. Whats that per day  .

The auction sites are pretty much all you can get. Unless you take a trip to the local tip and see what may have been thrown out.

There is an online retailer still selling Athlon XP's brand new for very reasonable prices. They have mobile 2600's (£42.99), 3000's (£34.99) and 3200's (£39.99). Unfortunately, due to forum rules i cannot give you a link and it's one of the smaller retailers so they may not show up on a Google.

I've got a Duron 700Mhz sat on my desk doing bugger all, might be lower than you want, but if you have a use i'll be happy to post it over to you...

just underclock it.... set to 100mhz fsb gives 1350mhz, or drop the multi (should be possible) to something like 8 for 1066mhz.

drop the v-core a touch. and your off.

I use an Athlon 3000 in my little Shuttle but would prefer an XP-M. Any idea why the 2600 would cost more than the 3200?

Don't the mobile 2600's clock better and run cooler? Not that i can see that as a reason why this particular retailer has them more expensive than the 3000/3200 Barton's as it is not one of the main retailers.

Wait till you have access to the MM then post a wanted add. A lot of people have a stack of socket a chips.

Yup -I agree that is a good place to look.

At the OP's posting rate I kinda figure he will be there before the turn of the century :D

I just sold a XP2500M for 15 in the MM, and they crop up very regularly, becuase lots of us bought them. Unlocked, lower voltage, they ruled.

Undervolting your current chip is an excellent idea, and cheap.

Very interested in that duron 700 if you still have it hex, pm me m8.

as for the post count... yea... joined the forums a bit before that but something went wrong with my account so i had to re-sign up, since then ive been at uni so havnt realy had time to do the whole forum thing.

Do i get a prize for being here since 04 and posting less than 10 posts? ;)

also ive tryed droping the volts on the T-b but i just cant lower it very much as it kicks up a fuss, come to think of it that t-bred is OcUk stock.. lol and still goin strong , just like my Thunderbird 1.4 .... dam that was fast at the time.. themal engine with a delta 60mm and a juno 6 modded with 2 120mm ys-tech fans... ahh happy memorys and slight deafness, anyways im waffaling.

righty, thanks for the responce guys always a helpful bunch here at OcUk.

later.

I have a Barton 2600xp doing nothing if u want it :) - it be a couple of quid for postage but thats about it.

If that is still on offer I could use that to be part of a rig that I'm trying to get cheap parts for. My Son needs a PC and I'm trying to help him out.

Providing, of course, that the OP doesn't want to take advantage of your generous offer :)

Let me know your price if you are interested :)
