This might seem like a really dumb question but it's not quite so straightforward as it initially seems.
A friend in the USA who collects currency notes has asked me if I can get a set of mint condition UK banknotes at face value, ie not at an inflated price from a dealer. They don't have to be uncirculated because even if they've been sent to a bank, they count as circulated. He just wants new, mint condition UK banknotes.
I've been looking around and I can't see an easy way to do this. Cashpoints sometimes have mint notes but it's not very common and there's no way of knowing. Plus, you can't get the exact notes you want from a cashpoint.
I've been into a couple of banks, they looked in their cash drawers and none of them had any mint notes. The Bank of England doesn't seem to have a little shop and even looking at some note dealers, they seem to specialise in old notes, they generally don't have current notes unless they're sought after serial numbers.
Where can I get a set of mint UK banknotes, £50, £20, £10 and £5?
Any suggestions? Printing them myself isn't an option
