Hiya, as title really, not had a diff done before so no idea who does them, my s14a has 202k on it and as such the original diff doesnt cut the mustard any more and very rarely locks up both wheels making drifting a bit of a struggle.

so wondering if anyone can recommend someone around my area or give me an idea of where to look?

thanks !

welded diffs are awesome, arse end all over the place, god help it when it rains and you try to go round a roundabout normally without hanging ya arse out, it just wont do it.

yes, I could but that would be expensive and I am a *****, Its also not my main car, I use it for driving about a little bit and drift days so I'm not really concerned about drive ability, welded diffs only tend to make low speed stuff a pain as you get crabbing

A welded diff will be a bit of a lightmare on the road. Could you not get a LSD?

Rumour has it that welded diffs are only a real issue when parking and manoeuvring at very low speeds, but considering aftermarket S-Body parts are so cheap I'd be inclined to go with a second hand LSD instead.

yea an aftermarket one will be expensive, :D I only use it for a gentle hoon every now and again and track/drift days so driveability isnt my top priority anyway

To be honest anyone with a decent welder should be able to weld up a diff. Take it out, take off the ring gear, degrease it, then go knocking on doors down your local industrial estate.

Or if you're a proper ***** you'll do it on the car without even draining the oil. :)

Could someone explain what this actually involes and what the purpose of it is?

A welded diff means, effectively, no diff of any type - not even an open diff. Therefore, that particularly axle will insist that both wheels rotate at the same rate. Which makes cornering very interesting. Also makes tyre wear very interesting :D

Also makes snapping drive shafts interesting. Shouldn't be driving a car with a welded diff on the road. Either leave it as is, trailer it to deft events, or spend some money on a good LSD.

pfft ignore the naysayers and get it done in the pikeyist fashion possible :)

not as bad as some people will have you believe, although many an mot tester will shake their head and tut with dissaproval. just tell your tester its a fancy diff and will need brake tested on the road :)

It's a shame you're not closer to London, I could have recommended a brilliant place.

It's an ar*e to drive a car with a welded diff on the road though, especially around mini roundabouts and carparks.
