What I want is the Pixel 3. But at it's current pricing it's not for me.

I'm tempted to go for a Pixel 2. This is what I did originally when the Pixel launched and pricing put me off and I bought the Nexus 5x.

Do I need an upgrade? Nope. But I do believe that the Nexus 5x stops receiving security updates soon.

What attracts me to the Pixel 2 is the big feature being updates as an when from google.

Are there any other phones in the £400 price bracket that will get timely updates like the Pixels do?

One plus are usually pretty good. Plus isn't "Android one" supposed to be all about timely updates?

But you're right a pixel/nexus device is the best option if you want speedy updates.

How long have you had it? mine died yesterday (had it for 2 years 2 months) because of the infamous boot loop and kill issue.

Pondering weather to suck it up and pay an £89 repair for a new board, as LG wont budge and admit that there is a flaw (with the US extending their warrenty on this issue to 30 months)

I downgraded to a sim only and kept the Nexus 5X hoping it would last another year. I dont really want to be spending £30+ on a contract for a decent phone, so may just go for the repair

but yeh watch out for the boot loop issue and the phone dying on you

Would also be interested as to what would be a good replacement for the Nexus 5X without spending OTT prices on handset or contract.

Hmm, I have not owned a Nokia since their windows phones came out, the Nokia 8 seems to have good reviews though, only issue is EE dont offer it as an upgrade or handset, and im stuck on a 12 month sim only deal which I could do a handset upgrade with

EE are offering me an upgrade on to the Nokia 8 - but would be a £100 handset cost and they can do a £28/mon which inc VAT contract, or no handset cost £38month which I dont want.

Wanted to keep the cost down. I prefer the sound of the Nokia 8 but is there any way to get this cheaper than having to put £100 foward then £28 per month? bearing in mind I am on a 12 month EE sim only contract at the moment.

they mention the P20 handsets also? specifically lite?

If I go down the EE upgrade route I get 14 days to to change my mind if I dont get on with the phone

Is that the new 8 Sirocco? I personally wouldn't go for the phone, as it uses LG's P-OLED display, which is pants.

I didnt realise there was two models of the Nokia 8 which i dont know I would have to check, its not listed on their website I had to phone in and ask and they said yes.

How bad is the display?

Speaking with someone else in EE it seems they may not stock the Nokia 8 now :( but they do have the Nokia 7 plus

Edit: speaking with affordable mobiles who are trying to see if they can do the EE upgrade through them, Nokia 8 (original not sirrocco) silver - 4gb data - EE essentials, £28p/m free handset. 24 months - I maybe able to get £40 cashback through quidco too

Nokia 8 doesn't look bad for the price. Is Android 9 currently upgradable for the device?

I still think the phone I will get will be the Pixel 2. I have noticed tho that prices have increased for the phone by about £50.

Also according to the google support page the Nexus 5x stops receiving security updates in Nov 2018.

I wouldn't personally pay £28 pcm for the standard Nokia 8. You should be able to pick up the Pixel 2 for the same price, which will get software updates for 2 years from now. The camera is also a monster, where as the camera on the Nokia 8 would be a step back from the 5X

Pixel 2 ? if i can get it for the same price £28 p/m with no real handset cost, then fair enough, if I have to pay a small handset fee I could do that, but i wouldnt want to pay £100-200 for a handset plus £28 month contract.

Remember it has to be eligable for EE upgrade either through EE or 3rd party, will continue looking if anyone knows where i could get one feel free to let me know

Also its made by LG again? which I am not liking at the moment but if there is no common faults I will concider

I can see it so far £99 handset cost, 24 month contract 28p/m 4gb data ee upgrade through 3rd party (would have to check) - this is for the 2 not the XL model

Also I dont want battery degrading quickly!

Best deal I can see is the £28 per month upgrade ee thorugh a 3rd party 4gb data - £99 handset cost, maybe able to get some cashback if I find a vendor that does it for the pixel 2 64gb just black

Im on the edge of ordering, still pondering on the nokia 8 but aiming for the pixel,

looking at the nokia 8, there is an andriod 9 update coming soon, enhanced camera updates.

its still going to be £28 month but without handset cost,

or shall I just go for the pixel 2 and suck up the handset cost.

Also ----Pixel 2 or pixel 2 XL? the XL is coming out at £28 p/m 4gb data - £79.00 handset cost

edit: gone for the pixel 2 XL - although didnt realise they removed the headphone jack and only support wireless headphones
