Over the next few months im going to be spending somewhere between 400 and 800 pounds on my computer however i dont know where to start and what to get. My current set up is the following:

intel Q6600 @ stock
4gb ddr2
saphire 4850 512mb
Antect Earthwatts 650w PSU
Dell Mobo
Coolermater 690 dominator case
Dell E207wfp monitor
500gb HDD
Vista 32 bit

I'm a bit reluctant to get a new processor as i feel the q6600 is more than adequate for everything that is about now, im thinking of going for a foxconn black0ps mobo and some ddr3 first and a new 1Tb HDD after. What would you guys do in my situation?

clock the cpu to 3ghz jus whack the fbs to 1333 should be fine mebbes a lil voltage tweak:D if u want better performance poo a gfx and new mon so it can handle the resolutions:D

That spec looks perfectly fine to me, why do you want to upgrade?

Well i fancy trying my hand at overclocking hence the new mobo and RAM as the dell one wont let me. as for the new HDD im simply running out of space. I don't actually NEED to upgrade i'm just throwing the idea out there to see what i can do.

What is your sound/ speakers like? Maybe a nice upgrade there. As your running with 4GB Ram, ever considered an 64bit OS?

I would deffo get a decent cooler and clock your q6600.

Im running off the onboard sound from my mobo to a hi-fi set up consisting of a NAD amp and some mordaunt short 902is with a matching sub so no need to upgrade the speakers. However now you bring up sound i do need a set of headphones.

Yes ive been considering 64 bit but figured 32 was ok for now or unless i upgrade. would 64bit actually benefit my current set up as it is then?

as for the cooler ive been looking around and quite like the sunbeam one plus it has good reviews. how would you guys rate it?

Seriously don't bother with a Foxconn BlackOps - they are veerrrry old news now and P45 is a better chipset for overclocking. It's also cheaper, and means you don't have to buy expensive and rather pointless DDR3 RAM.

64bit vista or try windows 7 to compare 32 bit to 64 bit for free first
clock that q6600 to atleast 3ghz, stock is no where near getting the most out of it.

and upgrade absolutely nothing after that as the spec is good and spending more money would purely be spending for the sake of having new toys to play with.

ok then i'll forget the black0ps board. However i will need to find a new mobo any suggestions on this?

so general consensus is to leave it all alone except clock the processor up to 3ghz and use 64bit. anyone disagree?

It should do 3.2ghz, maybe a little more. Have a look at the Asus P5Q Pro, BioStar P45 and the Gigabyte boards. They're all pretty good.

P43s are alright, but since the majority of them lack VRM cooling, I wouldn't do any heavy overclocking on one.

think im gonna go for a p45 however which one im not sure yet. i'll be happy with 3Ghz out of my processor. I'm new to all this computer modding as some of you may have noticed so don't really wanna jump into the heavy overclocking just yet.

cheers for all the help so far guys
