Hi all,

This is our "smart" lounge, the TV lounge with the big TV and all the surround sound gubbins are in the other lounge. Until we do the extension at the back for a large kitchen/diner (where we will put a TV in) we'll be using this lounge for the next few years as our main lounge and whilst I don't like having a TV in the lounge, for the moment it would be nice to have it here.

AS you can see there is the antenna connection available in the corner (it's quite long!) so we can move things around if needs be and there's power there too.

A wood burner will be replacing the gas fire you see in the pic.

To the left of the pic, leads to the dining room, and behind the picture is a bay window with a sofa and to the left there's another sofa. The TV has to go in the area you can see.

I'm happy to put it on a table if necessary, or put in on the bookcase or mount it on the wall.

Just after advice as to where you think it would make sense to put it. Looking at a small 42" or so TV. The scale is a little skewed on pic, but from the corner of the bookcase to the edge of the fireplace (inclusive) is nearly 4m or so, the chimney is around 1.5m wide (not the actual fireplace).

Thanks for the suggestions - hadn't thought of a swivel function.

Just for your interests this is what is to the left of the fireplace (quite a large space (2m or so) which leads to dining room):

We have a different coffee table now (plus lots of crap that comes with having offspring!) actually looks a bit different as well! But to the left you have the bay window with a large sofa, and then a smaller 2 person sofa ahead.

So perhaps a swivel thing might be helpful. When I say temporary I do mean for a few years so doesn't matter about wall mounting - I have a soundbar I can use to boost the sound a little - again I'm not bothered about a sophisticated setup as we have our tv room all set up and working well, but it's more of a den rather than a lounge.

With the above picture does that change your opinions? Apologies I should have posted both at the same time!

Thanks again for your inputs! I guess one of the things to do is to just "try" them in places - but I always appreciate 3rd party advice :)

I think that is the best idea. Whilst above the fireplace is nice and central I do agree it would be too high.

Central above bookcase or in the corner slightly angled towards the room? Though with a swivel it doesn't really matter I guess.

Thanks for the advice guys :)

Just to offer another opinion I would put it in the other corner where you have that table with the greeting cards on. This would keep it away from the door as I imagine this will limit the size of TV stand/space and I wouldnt want anyone to fling open the door and smash the TV. Have you measured it up to see if your existing TV would fit and at what angle ?
I would lift the carpet and run the aerial cable round to the other corner. Also not sure whether you would get the reflection off the window into the TV if it was at the bookcase.

We don't have a TV in that room and the den TV is all wired in and set up and CBA to move it :p

The aerial actually is close to that window so that would not be a problem. The door would unlikely smash into TV but it is something to consider.

I'd get a smallish TV with a thin bezel say 42" or so. It won't be a permanent part of the room in the future. I'll try plonking a spare PC monitor where you suggested and see how it goes.

articulated arm with cantilever mount - amazon have them for around £20-£40 depending on how sturdy you want them.

I bought 2, a £25 one for a 43" and a £35 for a 50" both really good. make / seller was Invision iirc

Cheers dude.
