Hi guys,

I've just about finished a reformat of my machine, and I'd like to get it straight how you can most efficiently set up your system. What i mean is stuff like :

1. Where to install program (system HDD or secondary/third HDD)
2. Where to install games (same)
3. Where to store page file

I'm not sure about the above listed but I know theres some sort of rule for them. Can any1 help me out?

Thanks

I would install all software and the page file on the main drive. Then anything else on the second drive. As far as I know, there's no 'rule' on how to do it. It's more down to the person and how like like it done. ;)

i always install all software and games on the same partition as windows. no point in putting them on separate drives because if you re-install windows, you'll still need to re-install all the software anyway. just keep all your data on another drive. first thing i do when i install windows is re-direct "my documents" to another partition. :)

Thats a good way to make the system get progressively slower, better if you prefer the lazy way, but otherwise... Not!

Doesnt matter if you still have to install everything again to 1 or 3 drives, you'll still have to reinstall.

This is how i do it, and it keeps the system faster then just sticking it all on one drive.

Drive 1 (74gb Raptor) - 1 Partition / OS
Drive 2 (160gb WD Sata2) - 2 Partitions / Games / Aps
Drive 3 (250gb WD Sata2) - 1 Partition / Storage

I've also moved My Documents onto the storage drive.

Diskeeper defrags the OS drive on screensaver mode, and the other 2 are defragged at 5 & 6am when the PC is left on.

I've tested various ways of splitting the various games, apps and data across drives and partitions as i use lots of apps and play lots of games, and this is by far the best way to keep the system running as fast as possible.

I did have a 4th drive for extra storage, but it was more then i needed and i used it in another system.
