I have the opportunity to move my job to Farnborough which would mean relocating. I want to move somewhere thats within 30 minutes of Farnborough by car/train. Myself and my flatmate are looking for a 2 bedroom place near a train station and reasonably close so some city/centre nightlife. So far, the only option I can see that is in a nice place but isn't a little village is Guildford. Does anyone have any suggestions around this?

Camberley isn't too bad with some new flats shooting up.

Fleet is nice, but probably lacks the nightlife you seek.

Woking is nice, lots of 2 bed places there and quite a good night out.

well I like Guildford but it is very expensive. Think you would have to make a change on the train as well - depends if you mind doing that. would imagine it wouldn't take 30 mins. Woking is cheaper but I don't really like the town centre etc that much. I guess I may be biased by working in woking though.

Well, Guildford to Farnborough by train is around 45 mins, and even then this is to the train station out of town, not the main one. By car, it's prob around 30 mins but with traffic, it will be longer.

No decent nightlife around other than Guildford though. Maybe Camberley.

Woking and Basingstoke are on the London line and 20 mins by train on either side of Farnborough.

Avoid Aldershot/North Camp.

Fleet seems a nice place from the few times I have been to the town centre but fairly small; no idea on nightlife.

Anywhere to live in Surrey will prob be more expensive than in Hants.

Overall suggestion: Stick to Farnborough or Camberley.

National rail says 20 mins direct to farnborough north in the morning (depends what time exactly though). or half an hour to main with a change at woking...

Never knew of the 20 min peak time journeys.

Camberley is already well catered in pubs on the high street - chains. 2 clubs - more downmarket than downmarket. Police patrol on Fri & Sat nights regularly.

However Camberley is even more upcoming. New Mixed Use Development being built - huge cinema, bowling, shops, Nandos, Wagamamas (4 relevant things to me) etc, etc. Should be great.

Yeah Farnborough or Camberley seem like a good bet. I believe Basingstoke is a fair bit cheaper to live in though, and only 15 mins from Farnborough on train. Night life isn't particularly hot here mind, but then it's not that far from Reading :) There's still a fair amount of hotties out and and about though.

I can agree with the above! It all depends what you want in night-life though. There are plenty of pubs and lots of restaurants in the centre.

I live in the Oakridge area of the town and it's ~10 min walk to the train station (and essentially the town centre). Also great commuter links to Reading and London :)
