I would love to have a go at overclocking.

Never done it lol.

Not after anything major, just a tiny tiny overclock to say i have done it.

I have the 2500k with standard cooler and this mobo.

Any links please or advice or anything really LOL

ignore the above post. the intel stock cooler is surprisingly good. yes its not the quietest thing in the world, but it will do a fine job of cooling your chip with a modest overclock (which is what your after by the looks of things). anandtech even managed 4.4Ghz with it.

overclocking the i5 2500k is very simple. all you need to do is go into the bios and increase the multiplier to whatever number you want. multiplying that number by 100 (the front side bus speed) will give you the speed in Mhz. dividing the number by 10 will give you the speed in Ghz.

i would recommend going no higher than 4Ghz, but dont worry if you accidentally go higher than this - you cant do any harm to the processor. (the worst that will happen is that the PC wont boot up. you can reset it back to normal very easily)

there is also an overclocking guide floating around the forums that will give you more detail than i can. however, i will tell you these things:

- leave the front side bus (FSB) at its standard speed (100Mhz i think)
- dont put the Vcore any higher than 1.38V

Yep the stock cooler will likely take you past 4GHz easily if the voltage needed wasn't too much, little too noisy for my tastes though.

And that is your opinion.

Mine is that it is trash, and that has been proven by countless benchmarks. Whilst it may not be a 100% necessity, it is highly recommended by more than enough people to get an after market cooler for overclocking, however modest it may be.

Set the CPU multiplier to 40, and save and exit the BIOS.

Its got a very good chance of booting and working stably without messing with any other value.

Managed to get it to 4.8 but is 1.6 too high for volts?

Nah talking rubbish. I shall a read Tom and have a dabble.

But tbh. I am not thinking the opposite.

This pc runs hotter than my e6600 and fanless GPU lol.

So I may look into cooling now. Makes my room hot lol

i agree with all but the last bit.

Why do you have to leave the bclk and why not go over 1.38

I wish people would stop mis informing people about this.

Ocuk are selling overclocked chips with 1.4v

and asus have made a guide were they tell people to tweak with the bclk.

You can't go silly with it but you can do it.

Mine is set to 104 24/7

Had a go this morning. Just seem to save. And yes I am saving before I exit bios lol.

Left everything auto apart from CPU x. Put to 40. And it's still at 16 I beleive.

when i was in world of tanks, i thought i would have a look.

What does this mean, overclocked?

Your no longer a overclock virgin lol

Did you have a program running as well???

Or have you changed the bck as well. Cpu-z says its set to 103 that's why you have a clock of 4326

42x103=4326 so must be set to 42 multi and 103 bck
