Hi Guys,

So I was thinking of up-grading my I7 920 System to a new Sandybridge System - But I've been told to hold of till later when the Haswell chips get release.

So I have this system and have thought long and hard, and now I want to overclock the baby.

Heres what I have:

Intel I7 920 Processor
Asus PT6 SE Board
Antec 1200 Case
12 GB (6 X 2GB) Ram (Corsair XMS3 - DDR3)
ATI HD 4890 GPU
Cooler Master V6GT Processor cooler
850 Watt PSU

So I have this running at 2.6GHZ, Can I over clock this to maybe 4GHZ??? I haven't update the Bios since fitting the system up yet either. I have read the beginners Guide, but I confused by it stating I might have to remove the battery or Jumper or even both - what does this mean??? I know I'm being a tad think now and should really know this stuff. Once I start making changes in the Bios, if the system crashes can I revert it all back to start. Will I notice a improvement in performance if I do overclock it to 4GHZ when playing games and using Adobe CS5???

Hope someone can help or shed some light on this.

Cheers,

Guaron

on the motherboard you have a battery which holds the memory of the cmos to reset the cmos you can either move the jumper which is a sm plastic on two pins beside the battery or you can remove the battery and that will reset cmos to default settings

Which doesn't actually help you overclock. Just helps you reset it :D

If you're confused have a look on google mate. There's lots of good guides out there, including the ones on this site.

Awesome Guide, Though my ram is: Corsair XMS3 Tri Channel 12GB PC10666 DDR3 Memory - 1333MHz, 12288MB (6 x 2048MB)

Can I still overclock with this to get a decent speed?????

yeh u can still use that, just don't aim to high for overclock, its a lot harder with 12Gb of ram.

When its anything in the guide about memory, just set it to the lowest/slowest speed and keep an eye that its below 1333.
