Hey all,

Just finished building my new comp and the performance doesnt seem as good as i hoped, I know i made a mistake buying the mobo as it wont overclock my q6600 past 2.7.

The spec is-

Abit fatality FP-9IN9
Q6600 @ 2.7
2x 8800 gtx's in sli- ocuk ones
ocz 6400 ram @ 880 4 4 4 12
ocz psu 700 watt
arctic freezer pro cooler

On 3dmark 05 im only getting 17100 with the cards in sli.
Sli disabled im getting 16210 on one card.
Surely 2x GTX's should get a better performance gain?

Playing Crysis on XP with the very high settings crack @ 1680x1050 res im getting between 21-50 fps with the average around 28. Does this sound about right? when i disable sli and play with one card the difference isnt all that much.

a quad core at 2.7ghz shouldnt be a bottleneck in anything other than a benchmark or stress test. neither should the 2 x8 slots (if theyre x8)

tried on a fresh new set hdd? defrag the current one, etc

also check your drivers. im on the 169.09's and theyre fine (stable and good performance)

Cheers for the replies,

The hdd's are new, one running vista and one xp, all the tests were done on xp.

I'll have to check what driver im using but im sure its the latest one off the nvidia site.

I'm trying really hard not to sound like an arse here but you bought a Q6600 system with a pair of GTXs and only put them in a 650i board?

Was the budget really tight or something?

Noway will you get over 16000 on a single GTX and with a CPU speed of 2.7ghz, the other card must be getting used to get that kind of score, your performance on whole seems to be spot on from what info you have provided.

Edit, just noticed you were using 3DMO5, get 06 on and yeah, them scores do seem low for your setup in 05.

I know, i had the mobo for a few months running a 8800gts 320mb, then Crysis came along and i realised i'd need some more power.

I think a new mobo is the way forward but should i wait for the new 780 chipset or do you reacon a decient 680 would be enough?

I didnt think dual 8x would throttle even gtx that much, I thought it was measured at 5% difference to 16x

Factory Overclocked
- Supercharged System Bus
Your board runs faster than its peers – with absolutely no overclocking skills needed. Instead, a supercharged, factory overclocked system bus provides the hidden powers you need to Obliterate the Competition and take home the win!

Is that the pcie speed they mean.

Seems i had the wrong drivers installed, its running much better with 169.09. Crysis is a lot smoother on the highest settings. averages well over 30 fps slowing down to 20 ish only at the big scenes.

I just cant decide weather to upgrade to a 680 chipset mobo now or wait for the new 780 at which point i suppose the gtx prices will have fallen dramatically allowing me to get 3 cards in sli, anyone have an opinon on the best way forward ?

Personally i'd go for a 680i board.
