Where's my missing RAM?

Hi Just installed Vista ultimate 64 bit. All looks good accept I have 4Gb of Ram and it's only showing 3.25. This is what I had showing while I was running XP and was under the impression that as soon as I installed the new OS I would get the full 4Gb. Is there a setting I've missed or something more I need to do?
I also wanted a clean install of vista and formatted the drive with XP on. However when I boot it asks which OS I want to use. Vista works fine but if I select the previous OS option it doesn't work so why is it still there?
Can I get rid of this.

My Rig

Dual core FX60 AMD 2.6Ghz
4Gb DDR 400 Geil Value
7800GT Extreme Gfx
4.7 performance score....Ram being the lowest

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Glenn

you must have kept the boot partition of xp in you need to delete the small partition on the drive to get rid of that.. the only way to do it is re-install again

ok doing something wrong here as after reinstall it is still there.
where is this boot ini file? on the same partition xp was on?

It'll be on the system boot drive, should be set to read-only, system and hidden so unset these settings within explorer and edit out the offending line relating to XP.

What motherboard do you have? Just because it'll take 64-bit CPUs does not necessarily mean your board manufacturer chose to allow 4+ GiB Memory addressing.
