Wheres my momery going?

Howdy

I'm just wondering where my Ram is
Using windows 7
In dxdiag i'm showing 4gb
but on my destop widget i'm showing only 3327mb

I'm assuming some must be shared with my GFX card as in dxdiag i'm showing approx. total memory 2286mb, but the card is only 896mb,

I cant help thinking something isn't setup right but I also think it might just be the way windows 7 is

is that right or is summet wrong?

If you are using 32-bit Windows, then that is about the maximum you will see due to system memory requirements/memory mapped IO etc.

Does that mean my ram is limited in its current form?
If so and I installed windows 7 64 bit would it be released?

Yup- it is a limitation of 32-bit Windows, in that it can only see a total of 4GB, and everything has to come out of it.
Upgrading to a 64-bit Windows will gain access to all your 4GB RAM, plus any more you later install
