Well have had my new Ultima OC 8800GTX" Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHz for about a week now and very pleased with the speed and performance of it.:D

However Windows vista has popped up a flag telling me to get the latest drivers for Abit uguru and gives me a link to the Abit download and have downloaded it okay. :)

The Abit uguru manual that came with the system tells me to look in the start menu/all programs/Abit/Abit uguru/uguru for the utility, well I have looked everywhere and it isn't listed in any of the programs.

Do I have to access the utility when booting up as there are a couple of options by pressing tab or delete :(

Sorry for the stupid question: After download did you install the programme.
Also check add/remove programmes in control panel.

Thanks for your reply Rob, they aren't stupid questions to me.....I thought my question may have been stupid as I know very little about computers..

Anyway in answer to your questions, no I haven't installed the download, I was trying to see what version I had before installing it.

Have looked in the add/removes programmes and cannot see it listed, but it must be installed somewhere for Vista to flag up about a later driver

Try installing it, if the software is installed then during the install process it will ask you what options you want to take; a)repair, b) modify, c) unistall.
Just click modify then it should reinstall and update and hopefuly place the shortcuts ect in.

I uguru is an on board chip, so windows checks your motherboard and places the recommended downloads.

Is your board the IP35 Pro if yes I have the same board.

Okay have installed the download, it didn't ask me to repair modify etc it just installed it and then needed to reboot.

Success, the Abit folder is now showing in the start menu, however when I select uguru it opens the programme and shows the control panel but it also shows a message saying Hardware monitor not support this model and when i click okay it closes the programme
The other programmes Blackbox and Flashmenu open okay.

Thats weird , perhaps try reinstalling using the installation disc which come with your system, it might have an extra driver or something which might detect the system details.

On mine when I reboot it asks for permission to start I agree then uguru starts.

Okay have reloaded the programme from disc, now get a different error, saying 'Getstring In XML file fail'
I have tried reloading the driver download and rebooting and now always get this error, however if I do not click okay I can still use/view the uguru control panel.

It almost seems that it wasn't installed originally as it didn't ask me to repair modify etc like it did when I reinstalled from the disc this time, but it must have been otherwise Vista wouldn't have picked up about the driver, could i have it installed in twice in different locations?

Having read a bit more in the Abit manual that came with the system I understand the uguru is a separate processor board, could it be that is installed but maybe not the programme that lets you adjust various settings from the programmes control panel?

I have noticed I cannot access the Overclocking option of the control panel maybe that is due to the getstring in XML file fail or something else.

Maybe I shouldn't bother with the uguru programme as i am not sure what I should be doing with it anyway...lol

Richchad,

Sorry to go OT on this, but how have you found the Ultima so far?

Build quality OK? Errors? Case/Fan noise?

Thanks.

Well I have only had it for about a week and have most of the time transferring files etc from my old XP system to Vista and haven't found anything that didn't work or just need drivers etc.

Build quality seems okay, although haven't really looked inside it as yet.
Haven't had any errors, yet.
Case seem okay nice in black with the blue fan lighting behind the front vents.:D
Fan noise, isn't excessive, it is about the same as my old PC which had just the one rear fan, this has four I think.
I don't know if you could get anything quieter with as many fans as I haven't heard many other systems.

The operation of it is loads faster than my old Pentium 4 system, it boots in about a minute whereas I with my old one I had time to have my breakfast before it had finished booting up.

Haven't played any games on it yet to put it through its paces, although have played a game or two of Operation Flashpoint which used to hang quite often on my old system, now I can play it on all the high settings no problem. :)

The only Criticism I have is the lack of information as far as what is installed, they have enclosed a box with all the bits they didn't need or use and the manuals but nothing really for the system as a whole, I guess it is intended for customers who know what they want and are 'experts' on the operation of everything, but if that is the case they probably would be building there own and not a built one. ;)

have the same problem with uguru, not sure if it works in vista x64

same here on vista 64 ultimate edition - uguru was fine until I updated with the latest from abit, since then it crashes and causes my machine to shut down. I've uninstalled it for the moment, otherwise very happy with this o/s.

My version of Uguru was from the disc supplied with Abit motherboard etc and I have now uninstalled it after it froze my Vista 32 bit system up.

Don't think I will bother with it as I don't really know what I would gain from using it other than worrying that I have messed up by changing something I shouldn't. :D
